From writer/director Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Before Sunrise), this coming-of-age classic follows a rag-tag group of students in Austin, Texas celebrating their last day of high school in 1976. As the motley crew of teens heads to an impromptu keg party, they spend the night driving in, making out, lighting up and hazing freshmen. Starring a host of future stars, including Parker Posey, Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck and Renée Zellweger, Dazed and Confused is a deliriously enjoyable cinematic treat.
It's high time you revisited the hazy intensity of high school in the company of an outstanding ensemble cast. The uptight 90s were a prime time for nostalgia about the hedonistic 70s, but Dazed and Confused also captures a little of the era's looseness and danger with absent adult figures and unsupervised kids running wild in the suburbs- a whole lot of encounters that seemed cool at the time and sketchy in retrospect. This isn't a PSA about the dangers of teen drugs and horniness though, with Linklater keeping things drifting along in a roundabout voyage of self-discovery and good times.
