Overview

If you had to be transformed into an animal for the rest of your life, which animal would you choose? David (Colin Farrell) has chosen a lobster, because they live for over 100 years and always remain fertile. Living out the rest of his days as a lobster will be David’s fate if he fails to find the perfect romantic partner in his 45-day stay at The Hotel, by order of The City. There’s quite a strict daily regimen for life in this hotel and the pursuit of a mate is a tricky one, especially since compatibility (right down to sharing the same physical impediment) is paramount. When David discovers a group of rebels who live in the woods surrounding the hotel, he starts to question the norms of this dystopian society in which couples rule and single people are a threat to be eliminated.

Why See This Film

Bizarre, deadpan, satirical and blackly funny, The Lobster is one of the most refreshingly original films released in recent memory. The debut English language film directed by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, Poor Things), it deservedly picked up the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Along with Farrell, the stellar cast includes Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux and Olivia Colman as the fantastically frosty hotel manager.
