The Bikeriders

Overview

Based on the 1967 book by photojournalist Danny Lyon, The Bikeriders is a blend of truth and myth-making at a turbulent time in the American Midwest. After a chance encounter at a local bar, Kathy (Jodie Comer) is inextricably drawn to pretty-boy silent type Benny (Austin Butler). He's the newest member of the Vandals motorcycle club, led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy). Mirroring 1960s American society at large the club undergoes a transformation, turning what was once a haven for outsiders into a dangerous outlaw gang, and Benny must choose between Kathy and his loyalty to the club.

Wildly charismatic performances, elegant camerawork, regular jabs of barbarous violence, and a skin-fizzingly sharp jukebox soundtrack.

Why You Should See This Film

Bikes, bros, Tom Hardy debuting a thrilling new Voice: The Bikeriders has it all. This film is a passion project for director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter), who was introduced to the book by his older brother over two decades ago and has been dreaming of adapting it ever since. Through the eyes of Jodie Comer's Kathy, Nichols explores the tension between American ideals of outlaw masculinity filtered through Hollywood— Brando and James Dean, troubled beautiful men in leather jackets on a gleaming Harley-Davidson Electra Glide— with the reality of their tough lives and the dark underworld the motorcycle gangs became.
