Overview

A beguiling fable for all ages, Flow is a triumph of resourceful filmmaking that deservedly took home the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (making it the first Latvian film to take home an Oscar). In a post-human world, a cat is driven from his home by an intense flood until he finds refuge aboard a lonely ship. Through open waters and mystical ruins, the cat joins the company of a capybara, a lemur, a Labrador and a secretary bird who brave their mysterious new world together. Fear not: they don’t talk.

Why You Should See This Film

Animated entirely in Blender over five and a half years, Gints Zilbalodis’ enchanting and wordless creature feature is extraordinary in its scope and intricacy, especially for a production of limited resources. Carefully mimicking actual animal behaviour in a tale devoid of human beings, language and personification of its furry, feathery stars, Flow makes for a refreshing and serene adventure suitable for everyone (and reportedly, even cats seem to get emotionally invested in it).
