Overview

From acclaimed filmmaker Philip Kaufman comes this spine-chilling ’70s remake of the 1956 science fiction classic. Spores fall from space over San Francisco, and the city quickly blooms with beautiful flora. People take the flowers home and, as they sleep, the plants creep over them, devouring their bodies and stealing their identities. Who is human, and who is an alien? With a stellar cast including Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldbum and Leonard Nimoy, and cinematography by Michael Chapman (Raging Bull), this is a must-see pulse-pounding thriller.

Why See This Film

Invasion of the Body Snatchers “may be the best film of its kind”, according to critic Pauline Kael. Often cited as a rare example of a remake improving upon the original, it’s ‘70s paranoia at its most sublimely cinematic. Horror legend Stephen King also praised the film in his 1981 book Danse Macabre , saying it features “the most realistic stage blood I have ever seen in a colour film”.
