Overview

While in Paris for work, Dr. Ben McKenna (James Stewart) and his wife, singer Jo (Doris Day) and their young son Hank decide to take a little trip to Morocco. Making their way from Casablanca, the trio meet Louis Bernard (Daniel Gelin), a Frenchman who seems nice enough, but his inquisitive nature arouses suspicion in Jo. From there – hotel hijinks, someone gets literally backstabbed, Scotland Yard chimes in on the situation, and Doris Day belts out the now iconic Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).

Why You Should See This Film

A remake of his own film from 1934 (early trendsetter!), Hitchcock has said "let's say the first version is the work of a talented amateur and the second was made by a professional." Screenwriter John Michael Hayes was subsequently banned from watching the original. Though it was Hitchcock who directly requested Doris Day for his lead, the producers weren't so sure. Of course, Hitch got his way, and her version of Que Sera, Sera snagged an Academy Award for Best Song.
