"Where are we going?"
A precursor to director Wim Wender's visionary Paris, Texas (1984), Alice in the Cities is a rarely-screened and gorgeously-shot road movie classic. When West German journalist Philip (Rüdiger Vogler) is stranded in New York City while on assignment, he comes across a young German woman and her daughter Alice (Yella Rottländer). After the mother disappears and he is left to take care of her child, Philip and Alice embark on a rambling road trip from America to Europe in search of the girl's home.
Often hailed as one of Wenders' most visual striking and emotonally moving works, Alice in the Cities is an unforgettable cinematic experience. Featuring one of the silver screen's most multifaceted child characters — and a surprise 'cameo' from rock & roll legend Chuck Berry — we simply can't recommend this film highly enough.
